How it counts without cookies
The tracker is about 4 KB gzipped. It sets no cookies, uses no local storage and stores no IDs in the browser, and IP addresses are never stored. A visit counts when someone enters your site, so clicks between your own pages don't add visits. Live visitors, events and goals use a hash of the IP address and user agent with a random salt that changes every UTC day and is deleted when the day ends. More on cookieless analytics.
When Google Analytics is the better choice
- You run Google Ads and want audiences and conversions synced to your campaigns.
- You need explorations, audience builders, or ecommerce and revenue reports.
- You want your GA history in the same tool. Totallytics can't import Google Analytics data.
Totallytics also has no heatmaps, session replay, A/B tests or feature flags.
Switch in three steps
1. Add your site. Sign in with Google and add your domain. It's free during beta, needs no credit card and covers up to 50 websites.
2. Add the script. Copy the tracking script from your site settings into your shared layout:
<script
async
src="https://totallytics.com/latest.js"
data-hostname="example.com"
data-verify="YOUR_SITE_VERIFY_TOKEN"
></script>
3. Open your site. The first pageview checks data-verify and verifies the site on its own. You can keep GA4 running next to it while you compare numbers.
The installation guide covers React, Next.js and single-page apps.
