AI traffic analytics

Track visitors from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Gemini

Totallytics is free during beta and shows AI assistant traffic such as chatgpt.com as its own source, with the pages those visitors land on and whether they convert. No cookies, one 4 KB script.

How AI traffic shows up

Assistant How it's identified Shown in Totallytics as
ChatGPT Adds utm_source=chatgpt.com to links, as documented by OpenAI chatgpt.com
Perplexity The referrer, when the browser sends one Its referrer domain
Claude The referrer, when the browser sends one Its referrer domain
Gemini The referrer, when the browser sends one Its referrer domain
Microsoft Copilot The referrer, when the browser sends one Its referrer domain
Google AI Overviews and AI Mode A google.com referrer google.com

Checked on September 30, 2026. Only OpenAI documents a UTM tag; the other assistants depend on the referrer.

Sources prefer utm_source, then the referring domain. A click that carries neither shows up as Direct / none. Google search domains are grouped under google.com, so clicks from AI Overviews count as Google, while gemini.google.com stays separate.

See which AI sources convert

Set a goal on a page or a custom event, then break it down by source to compare chatgpt.com with google.com. Funnels of 2 to 6 steps show where AI visitors drop off, with median and p90 time to convert. Goals are computed from data you already collected, so a new goal covers past traffic right away. See AI crawlers on your API

The web tracker runs in the browser, so crawlers that don't run JavaScript never show up in your web stats. On the server, the Totallytics middleware for Hono, Express, Fastify, Next.js, Workers and Go labels callers by user agent, including GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, Claude-User and PerplexityBot, with requests, status codes and latency per route. Set it up

Sign in with Google, add your domain and paste the tracking script from your site settings into your HTML:

<script
  async
  src="https://totallytics.com/latest.js"
  data-hostname="example.com"
  data-verify="YOUR_SITE_VERIFY_TOKEN"
></script>

The first pageview verifies your site.

FAQ

Do clicks from Google AI Overviews count separately?

No. They arrive with a google.com referrer and count as Google. Search Console also folds AI Overviews and AI Mode into regular search data.

What if an AI tool sends no referrer?

Then the visit has no source and shows up as Direct / none.

Does ChatGPT traffic need a referrer?

No. OpenAI documents that ChatGPT adds utm_source=chatgpt.com to referral links, and Totallytics reads utm_source first.

Does this need cookies?

No. Totallytics sets no cookies and uses no local storage, and IP addresses are never stored.
